Shami’s Remarkable Journey in 2023

Mohammad Shami, The local tournament of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh was dominated by a fast bowler named Tausif Ali. Tausif had both the hobby and skill of fast bowling. People would also advise that go to the club, do training, you can go to domestic. But Tausif Ali was from a farmer family, neither had money nor time left to prepare for domestic or national. There came a time when Tausif Ali accepted that perhaps farming was his destiny and it was too late for professional cricket. Tausif Ali returned to his normal life after burying his dream of being a fast bowler of the Indian team. Got married, raised a family through farming. Had five sons, and all of them had a passion for cricket. Tausif Ali knew where he had made mistakes and what not, due to which he had to kill his dreams. He did not want to let anything like this happen to his children. For fifteen years, he himself trained his son to become a bowler, he passed on his experiences and mistakes to his son. The son just had to move on and achieve what his father did not even have the chance to struggle to achieve.

After training his son till the age of fifteen, Tausif Ali collected all his savings and took his son to coach Badruddin at a cricket academy in Moradabad. When the son started throwing the ball in front of the coach, Badruddin immediately accepted him as his disciple. That boy was so hardworking that he did not miss even a single day of training. During the training in Moradabad, if any match was over, that boy would stand up asking for old used balls. When asked the reason, he told that with these old balls I Will practice reverse swing. Badruddin was fully confident that the selectors would definitely pick this boy in the Under-19 trials. It was with this hope that the boy gave the trial, but according to Soch Badruddin, the boy was not given a chance due to the biased attitude of the selector. Badruddin was told to bring him next year, the boy has life, how long will the selectors keep him away from the Indian cap. Badruddin was a far-sighted man, he said that this boy should not be put to risk for one more year, he talked to the boy’s father Tausif Ali and asked him to send him to Calcutta. If he plays for the club there, sooner or later he will be included in the state team. The only reason Tausif Ali had for taking this gamble was his faith in his son’s ability and passion.

After coming to Calcutta, the boy joined a club, but the path to the state and national team was both far and difficult. He reached Bengal on the basis of passion, but passion neither fills his stomach nor keeps a roof over his head. But there is no dearth of such people in the world who look for passion and ability in people, one such person was Devvrat Das, who At that time he was holding the position of Assistant Secretary of Bengal Cricket. He was so impressed by the boy’s ability that he took the homeless boy to live with him in Calcutta. Then he asked Banerjee, a selector from Bengal, to keep an eye on the boy’s talent. Banerjee saw the boy bowling and selected him in the Bengal Under-22 team. When Devdutt Das was asked the reason for such kindness to the boy, he said, “This boy does not want money and money, the only thing he sees is the three stumps buried at the end of the pitch. The chance of the ball hitting the stumps. That boy likes the sound so much that most of his wickets are bowled out.

After leaving there, the boy (Shami) joined Mohun Bagan Club, where he bowled to Sourav Ganguly in the nets of Eden Garden. The same thing happened with Saurav, which till now was happening with every person who was watching that boy throwing the ball. Ganguly was impressed and then on his recommendation the boy was selected in Bengal’s 2010–11 Ranji team. After a few years of hard work and struggle, this boy (shami) was given the debut cap of the Indian team against Pakistan on 6 January 2013. After wearing it till today, the boy is increasing the status of that cap number 195 day by day. In the midst of thousands of spectators, when the boy started running with all his might, there was only one desire in him, that somehow the ball would hit the stump and that sound of ‘tuck’ would come, hearing which he has been breathing for so many years. Even today, despite all the ups and downs and difficulties of life, when Mohammed Shami, son of Amroha’s fast bowler Tausif Ali, starts running on the runup wearing jersey number 11, his(shami) father’s dream and the dedication of coach Badruddin follow him, Devdutt Das’s humanity, everything moves together and runs.
